The SBSH Scoop | Wilderness First Aid Certification
The Upper Peninsula offers world-class outdoor experiences, but as any seasoned guide knows, the wilderness is as unpredictable as it is beautiful. To help you provide the safest, most professional service possible, the SBSH grant program is bringing Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Certification directly to Sault Ste. Marie! You'll get this $250 value free of charge. It's on us!
In the outdoor industry, your reputation is built on trust. Having people on your team WFA certified isn't just a safety precaution; it’s a competitive advantage!
And we are bringing the expertise to you.
Meet Steve Huisman from Great Lakes Wilderness Emergency Response. He'll be guiding you over this two-day intensive course, and you'll master the critical skills needed to manage a crisis until professional help arrives:
- The Patient Assessment System
- Trauma Management
- Environmental Emergencies
- Medical Concerns
When: Friday, March 13 & Saturday, March 14 | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Where: Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE), 100 Salmon Run Way, Sault Ste. Marie, MI

Business Spotlight | Brewing Up Big Changes at Salty Mac!
What this SBSH grant funding truly represents is an opportunity for a more sustainable business.
Let’s raise a mug—or a glass—to Salty Mac Brewing Company! Nestled in St. Ignace, this local gem is proving that they’re worth their salt (and then some).
Thanks to a recent SBSH direct grant that helped Saulty Mac Brewing get their feet under them, the "coffee house" side of the business has officially perked up! (Groan for the incessant need to pun.) With new blending equipment and warming pots, they’ve increased their capacity to keep the caffeine—and the community—flowing. But make no mistake, it’s not all about coffee. The uniqueness of what they offer is a full range of beverages. There’s something for everyone: coffees, mocktails, cocktails and beers. Bring all your friends and family… all at once if you want!
While many know them for their incredible Scottish and Irish-inspired ales, Salty Mac is much more than a seasonal stop. They’ve expanded into a full-day destination offering a ranging menu from breakfast, craft cocktails, wine, and other interesting things. But their "pour-fect" claim to fame? The fan-favorite self-pour tap wall, where you can explore 30 different taps at your own pace.
The have a "best of both brews" philosophy—yes, that means coffee in the beer! Whether you’re starting your morning with a latte or ending your night with a stout, Salty Mac is the ultimate place to "conspire for success" with friends.
Stop in, grab a wristband, and stay salty!
