Business Spotlight | RW Laitinen Professional Land Surveys
What this SBSH grant funding truly represents is an opportunity for a more sustainable business.
When it comes to knowing exactly where your property begins and ends… these are your people. RW Laitinen Professional Land Surveys has been officially open since summer 2024, but Rob has been doing land survey work since 1996, so you're in very experienced hands with him and his team.
Serving Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac Counties, Rob and his small but mighty group handle everything from residential and commercial boundary surveys to flood, mortgage, and vacant land surveys. They do bathymetric surveys too (mapping what's underwater). Rob recently mapped the lake floor around a private 10 acre island on Little Trout Lake. Not exactly your average Tuesday.
Thanks to an SBSH direct grant, Rob added a brand new Carlson RT5 tablet data collector with pole mount equipment to his arsenal. Built tough for rugged terrain and unpredictable UP weather, this piece of gear keeps Rob collecting the data he needs no matter what the woods or the weather throws at him. You could say it really helps him get the lay of the land! (bad pun groan :) )
The work takes Rob to places most people will never set foot, deep into the woods tracing original survey markers from the late 1800s, where trees were scored and posts were set by hand. There's a lot of history out there, and Rob gets to uncover it, one boundary line at a time.
One thing Rob is passionate about? Educating landowners. Property boundaries matter more than most people realize, and it rarely comes up until there's a problem. Rob wants to change that before things get out of bounds. (Oh the puns!)
